What Makes Wellesley Different.

Water

What comes out of the tap

Wellesley is one of the few towns inside Route 128 where the water itself spots the glass. About a quarter of the town's supply comes from ten municipal wells near Morses Pond and along Rosemary Brook, and that well water is roughly eight times harder than the MWRA water that makes up the rest. Depending on the day and the neighborhood, the hose at your house may be delivering minerals that dry white on every window the sprinkler reaches. We never rinse with it. Every exterior pane gets a pure-water final rinse, and existing spotting is removed rather than washed around.

Roofs and trees

What grows on the house

Wellesley's oak, maple and white pine canopy drops heavy pollen in May and shades the north side of most roofs all summer. Morses Pond, Lake Waban and the Charles at Lower Falls add the humidity that turns that shade into algae on siding and moss on shingles. Slate and cedar are common on the 1920s and 1930s Tudors and Colonials, and both are cleaned with a no-pressure treatment that kills the growth and lets rain rinse it away over the following weeks.

Rules and access

What to know before we come

The Cottage Street Local Historic District covers about sixty-five properties near Wellesley Square, and the town's Demolition Review Bylaw can delay changes to pre-1950 homes by up to a year. Neither one applies to cleaning. Most Wellesley driveways are long enough for our truck, and where a lot is landscaped to the edge we walk the hoses in rather than drive on lawn or plantings.

Straight Answers

Wellesley Homeowners Ask Us.

Why do my windows spot within a week of being cleaned?

Almost always because the irrigation system is hitting the glass with town well water. We can remove the mineral buildup, seal the glass, and show you which sprinkler heads to adjust so the problem stops at the source.

Is soft washing safe on the fiber cement siding on a new build?

Yes. Low-pressure soft washing is what the siding manufacturers specify. Pressure washing can void the warranty and drive water into the seams, so we do not use it on siding of any kind.

Can you clean a cedar roof in Cliff Estates?

Yes. Cedar gets a low-pressure application of a wood-safe cleaner and a moss treatment, never a pressure wash, which lifts the grain and shortens the life of the shakes.

Do you handle large homes with a lot of glass?

That is most of our Wellesley work. A two-person crew with water-fed poles covers a 6,000 square foot house in a day, and interior work is scheduled around the household rather than the other way round.
