Lexington Window Cleaning for Colonials and Mid-Century Glass.
Window cleaning, house washing and roof and gutter care for Lexington, a town with two very different kinds of house: painted Colonials and Capes on one street, flat-roofed moderns with walls of glass on the next. We clean both, and we quote each one after seeing it.
Lexington Window Cleaning, Neighborhood by Neighborhood.
What We Clean on a Lexington Home.
What Makes Lexington Different.
What comes out of the tap
Lexington is fully supplied by the MWRA, buying around two billion gallons a year of soft Quabbin water. The tap does not spot glass here. The haze on Lexington windows is tree pollen and sap in spring, irrigation overspray in summer and highway film near the Route 2 and 128 corridors. All of it comes off with a scrub and a pure-water rinse, which is the same rinse we use in towns where the water itself is the problem, so the result is identical.
What grows on the house
Minute Man National Historical Park, Whipple Hill, Willard's Woods and the Great Meadows put a lot of Lexington under oak and pine. North roof slopes stay shaded and grow moss, and vertical wood siding on the modern houses collects algae on the shaded side. Pitched roofs get a no-pressure treatment. The flat roofs on Six Moon Hill and Five Fields are a different job: we walk only where the membrane is sound, clean by hand, and make sure the interior drains and scuppers are clear when we leave, because a blocked drain on a flat roof is a leak waiting for the next storm.
What to know before we come
The Lexington Historic Districts Commission covers the Battle Green, Hancock-Clarke, Munroe Tavern and East Village districts, plus Mount Independence. Any exterior change visible from a public way needs a Certificate of Appropriateness, including a change of paint color. Washing and window cleaning are maintenance and are not reviewed. The modern enclaves have narrow shared drives and houses set close to the trees, so we park once at the top and bring equipment in on foot to protect the plantings.
Lexington Homeowners Ask Us.
Can you clean the big fixed glass on a Six Moon Hill or Five Fields house without scratching it?
Yes. We use soft brushes and deionized water on poles, and we never put a blade on original or coated mid-century glass. Scratches on that glass usually come from a previous cleaner's razor, not from us.
Is it safe to wash a flat roof?
Yes, when it is done by hand. We walk only sound membrane, use no pressure, and keep the drains clear. The roof leaves in better shape than we found it because the drains are the first thing we check.
Does the historic district need to approve exterior cleaning near the Battle Green?
No. The commission reviews alterations such as siding, windows and colors. Cleaning changes nothing about the house, so there is nothing to review.
How long does a typical Lexington house take?
A 1950s Colonial with storms and screens is about half a day for exterior and interior glass. A modern with wall-sized glass on two sides is a full day, mostly because every pane is large and every one of them shows.
