Cambridge Window Cleaning From Brattle Street to Cambridgeport.

Window cleaning, house washing and roof and gutter care for Cambridge, from the mansions of Tory Row to the triple-deckers of Cambridgeport and North Cambridge. Tight lots, shared driveways and the city's own hard water make this a different job from the suburbs, and we plan it that way.

What Makes Cambridge Different.

Water

What comes out of the tap

Cambridge is not on MWRA water day to day. The city runs its own system from the Hobbs Brook and Stony Brook reservoirs feeding Fresh Pond, and that water is moderately hard at around 64 milligrams per liter, about 3.7 grains per gallon. Inside Route 128 that makes Cambridge the town where a garden-hose rinse does the most visible damage, drying as white haze across every pane. Our final rinse is deionized water from our own tank. Add the soot from Memorial Drive, Massachusetts Avenue and Fresh Pond Parkway, and the case for a proper scrub and a pure rinse is stronger here than almost anywhere.

Roofs and trees

What grows on the house

Cambridge has one of the densest street-tree canopies in the region, and Fresh Pond, the Charles and the Alewife wetlands keep the shaded sides of houses damp. Brattle Street slate grows lichen where the trees reach over it and is treated without pressure. Triple-deckers carry flat rubber or tar-and-gravel roofs that collect leaves and clog their own drains, so those are cleaned by hand with the drains as the first priority. Copper gutters and flashing on the older houses are cleaned with products that will not etch the metal.

Rules and access

What to know before we come

The Cambridge Historical Commission oversees the Old Cambridge Historic District along Brattle Street and Mason Street and the Fort Washington district, plus the Avon Hill, Half Crown-Marsh and Harvard Square neighborhood conservation districts. Exterior alterations need a certificate. Paint color and cleaning are not reviewed. Access is the real Cambridge issue: many buildings have no rear access and no driveway, so upper floors are cleaned with poles from the sidewalk, and where staging is needed on the sidewalk we handle the city permit before the visit.

Straight Answers

Cambridge Homeowners Ask Us.

Why do my windows spot when Boston's water is supposed to be soft?

Because Cambridge is not on Boston's water. Fresh Pond water is moderately hard, and anything that dries on the glass leaves minerals behind. We finish with a deionized rinse and can strip the existing buildup.

Can you clean a triple-decker condo with three separate owners?

Yes. We quote the building as one job, work through the association or the owners together, and bill the association or split the invoice by unit.

How do you reach the third floor on a house with no driveway?

With water-fed poles from the sidewalk, which reach well past three stories. Where a pole cannot get the angle, we set a ladder with stand-offs or arrange a lift, and we tell you which before we quote.

Do you need a permit to work from the sidewalk?

Only when we stage equipment on it for an extended period. Pole work from the sidewalk does not need one. When a lift or staging is required, we obtain the permit and include it in the quote.
