Brookline shares a border with our Brighton base along Commonwealth Avenue, so a Brookline job is a short drive and a familiar street. Window cleaning, house washing and roof and gutter care for single-family homes, brownstones and condo buildings, quoted after we have seen the building in person.

Pressure washingFront steps, walks, driveways and parking areas, including the salt crust that Beacon Street traffic leaves each winter.
Local Conditions

What Makes Brookline Different.

Water

What comes out of the tap

Brookline is fully on MWRA water, which is soft enough that the tap almost never leaves mineral spots. What Brookline glass does collect is city film: exhaust from Beacon Street and Route 9, salt spray on the lower floors in winter, and irrigation overspray on the estates south of Route 9. The scrub takes the film off and the deionized rinse dries clean, which matters most on the large fixed panes of the newer condo buildings where every streak shows.

Roofs and trees

What grows on the house

North of Route 9 the challenge is grime; south of it the challenge is shade. Jamaica Pond, Hall's Pond and the Emerald Necklace keep the air damp, and the woods around Larz Anderson Park and The Country Club shade whole elevations. North-facing brick and clapboard turns green, and the slate roofs on Pill Hill and Fisher Hill grow lichen where the trees reach over them. Slate is treated with a no-pressure solution and left for the rain to rinse. Walking slate is how it cracks, so we do not.

Rules and access

What to know before we come

Brookline has seven local historic districts under its Preservation Commission: Chestnut Hill North, Cottage Farm, Graffam-McKay, Harvard Avenue, Lawrence, Pill Hill and Wild-Sargent. Alterations to exterior features and some landscape changes need review. Cleaning does not. On condo buildings we ask the trustees for a written go-ahead, park legally on the street rather than in resident spaces, and notify units when windows will be done so screens and blinds are ready.

Straight Answers

Brookline Homeowners Ask Us.

Can you clean a brick condo building on Beacon Street with several owners?

Yes. We quote the building as one job, work through the management company or the trustees, and bill the association or split the invoice by unit, whichever the board prefers.

Will you pressure wash my 1890s Queen Anne?

No. High pressure drives water behind clapboard, strips paint and fills the walls with moisture. Old wood siding gets a soft wash at garden-hose pressure with a cleaner that does the work chemically.

How do you reach the fourth-floor windows on a brownstone with no rear access?

From the sidewalk with water-fed poles, which reach about five stories. Where a pole cannot reach, we arrange a lift and handle the permit. We tell you which one it will be before we quote.

Do you clean the inside of windows in occupied condos?

Yes. Interior work is scheduled unit by unit with a two-hour arrival window, we work in socks or shoe covers, and we move and replace furniture ourselves.
